Three weeks before Easter (Laetare Sunday during Lent), the Thurgovian village of Ermatingen celebrates Groppenfasnacht or fish carnival. It takes its name from the Gropp, a small fish found only in the Ermatingen area that fishermen once celebrated with special festivities.
