Gansabhauet in Sursee (LU)

About

The Gansabhauet is a rare and spectacular Swiss tradition celebrated in Sursee on November 11 (Martinmas). Young boys attempt to knock down a suspended goose with a blunt saber while blindfolded. Since 1880, children's games enliven the event: climbing a stripped pine tree, hopping in jute sacks, pulling ugly faces contests. Since 1997, an illuminated parade winds through the old town.
