The Belalp Hexenabfahrt is a traditional week-long ski race held in January at the Blatten-Belalp ski resort, with its peak on Saturday: a spectacular 12 km descent with 1,800 m of elevation loss from the Hohstock to the finish in Blatten. Two categories participate: competitive skiers (Rennfahrer) and groups dressed as witches (Hexen). Witches Nights and the Hexen-Kinderfest complete the program. This folkloric event based on an old Valais legend has been running for over 43 years.
