About
On Thursday and Saturday prior to Ash Wednesday, the Lötschental valley is inhabited by the Roitschäggättä – wild figures clad entirely in fur and wearing impressive wooden masks. This carnival custom can be encountered as early as Candlemas (February 2) and continues through the carnival season.
