Tash Aw, an author nominated multiple times for the Booker Prize, presents his new novel telling the story of a family in Malaysia in the late 1990s. Through flashbacks, we follow sixteen-year-old Jay and his family, who must manage his late grandfather's farm. The sultry atmosphere becomes a metaphor for the Asian financial crisis and backdrop for Jay's coming-of-age and his relationship with Chuan.
