Discover the Silvesterchlausen, an ancient tradition celebrated on 31 December in Appenzellerland. Masked mummers traverse villages from dawn to midnight singing and yodeling New Year's wishes. Elaborate hand-crafted costumes (hundreds of hours of work) depicting rural scenes: the elegant « schöne Chläus », the « wüeschti Chläus » and « Naturchläus » with artistically decorated masks. A mystical sonic atmosphere, a unique Protestant tradition since the 17th century.
