About
The Bénichon is a popular traditional celebration in Châtel-St-Denis commemorating the end of harvests, the descent of herds from alpine pastures, and the return to winter quarters. The festival spans two weekends: the 3rd weekend of October with festivities, traditional elaborate meals, and folk dancing, followed by the Recrotzon celebration the following weekend. The traditional Bénichon menu features Fribourg specialties including cuchaule, Bénichon mustard, heritage ham, and lamb with Botzi pears.
