Julia Weber: Because I Am Ruth

About

In her new novel Because I Am Ruth, Julia Weber tells the story of a girl born with fur, possessing a force that influences nature and temporarily transforms humans into animals. From her perspective, a poetic narrative unfolds about belonging and exclusion, the gaze of others, and the search for one's place in the world. With her distinctive, sensual language, Weber combines coming-of-age with magical realism, creating a tender yet powerful story about identity, vulnerability, and the freedom to be different.
