Bernarda and Silas grow up at Malmö City Theatre. Behind the scenes, amongst rehearsals and costumes, they find a place – together with their siblings Asta and Fox – where the rules of the adults do not apply. But one event changes everything. Twenty-five years later, Bernarda is haunted by the past and must confront a long-suppressed tragedy. Johanne Lykke Holm's novel explores childhood, memory and the spaces between play and reality.
