Held from Monday to Thursday following Ash Wednesday, Basel's Fasnacht (carnival) is recognized as Switzerland's largest popular festival with 15,000 to 20,000 masked participants. This spectacular three-day celebration features elaborate costumes, parades, and the famous fife music that echoes through the old town.
