Bénichon of Châtel-St-Denis

About

The Bénichon of Châtel-St-Denis is a traditional popular festival commemorating the end of harvest, the descent of herds from the alps, and the return to winter quarters. For over six hours, participants enjoy a rich traditional menu including cuchaule and Bénichon mustard, broth, ham, lamb leg with Botzi pears, meringues, and local delicacies. After the meal, the evening continues with folk dances accompanied by traditional music. The Recrotzon, celebrated the following weekend, extends the celebrations.
